Being the first post in this lounge we thought we shall dicuss about some of the basics of project management
Here we'll list some of the core concepts of project management which we'll discuss in detail in the following weeks. With little help from Wikipedia here goes the definition for a Project and a Project Management.
What is a Project ?A project is a finite endeavor (having specific start and completion dates) undertaken to create a unique product or service which brings about beneficial change or added value.
What is a Project Management ?Project management is the discipline of planning, organizing and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives.
As the saying goes Necessity is the Mother of Invention so a project is a endeavor undertaken to accomplish a required output which adds more value.
Mostly everyone who writes, explains, teaches or even preaches about project management is well aware that it has the following five stages.
- Initiating
- Planning
- Executing
- Monitoring
- Closing
Apart from this project management also involves nine core knowledge areas like
- Project Integration Management
- Project Scope Management
- Project Time Management
- Project Cost Management
- Project Quality Management
- Project Human Resource Management
- Project Communications Management
- Project Risk Management
- Project Procurement Management
Each of the nine knowledge areas involves the processes that need to be accomplished in order to achieve an effective project management and they fall under each of the five stages of project management.
In our upcoming series we'll discuss in brief about five stages of project management and will analyze in depth about nine core knowlege areas.
